Boma-Flavors of Africa

Boma Flavors of Africa, located in Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, serves a wide selection of traditional African cuisine in a buffet style dining experience.  The open atmosphere of the bustling kitchen allows exotic aromas from the wood burning grills to waft through the air.  When dining at Boma, bring your appetite and be prepared to taste the finest of soups.  From a choice of Butternut Squash to Chicken Corn Chowder and, my personal favorite, Crab Soup; sweet crab meat in a perfectly spiced bisque.

Boma also offers a variety of salad dressings, from apple to mango vinaigrettes; which add a tart yet sweet flavorful blend to the mixed greens.  Other salads include several pasta, potato and cole slaws along with a unique watermelon rind salad.

When ready for the main course, there are some definites to try.  The Meat Bobotie, a lamb and rice mixture with nuts and raisins is a delicious combination.  The Durban Roasted Chicken gives a little kick to your palate, while the Fu Fu, whipped sweet and white potatoes with cinnamon, add a soothing flair.  If not in the mood to try the African dishes, the good old standbys of macaroni and cheese, spaghetti with meatballs, and chicken fingers will certainly satisfy.

Then, of course, there are the fabulous desserts.  A selection of cookies, cakes, and pies line the area amid Boma’s specialty passion fruit meringue tarts and Zebra Domes.  The small truffle like dessert contains a liquor mousse which is then enrobed in white and milk chocolate, patterned to resemble a zebra.

Overall, Boma is a terrific restaurant for all ages.  The wide area to get from table to buffet station provides easy access for multiple trips and there’s never a threat of colliding into other diners.  Children can enjoy the ability to walk up to the buffet and choose their own meals, while parents can enjoy fine dining in a somewhat louder atmosphere than other restaurants in Walt Disney World.
