Rumors of a new Pirates of the Caribbean themed restaurant in Adventureland

Today’s rumor comes courtesy of Ricky Brigante, from the extremely well produced “Inside the Magic” podcast.  According to Brigante, there is a possibility that a new Pirates of the Caribbean themed restaurant, likely a sit-down, will go into Adventureland, perhaps where El Pirata y el Perico is now.

Brigante suggests it may have some audio animatronics as part of the décor.  The figure that was added to the World of Disney store in Downtown Disney immediately comes to mind.  My 3 year old niece stared at that thing for what seemed like hours, so it certainly works with the kids.  He also mentioned “characters running around”, to paraphrase the host.  Perhaps Captain Jack can move his tutorial indoors?

Tortuga is the Magic Kingdom?

The other part of the rumor that I found most intriguing, and also less plausible, was that the theme of this new restaurant may be that of Tortuga, the famed pirate port in the films.  The only problem is that Tortuga certainly doesn’t fit the Magic Kingdom’s kid-friendly environment.  It’s a place that auctions women, sees is fair share of bar fights, and doesn’t exactly cater to the family crowd.

So this gets me to thinking…wouldn’t a Tortuga themed tavern make a great addition to the Disney-MGM Studios?  Or even better yet, Downtown Disney?  I know the Magic Kingdom is in desperate need of a good sit-down, but to water this idea down to make it fit there would kill the concept’s potential.  Any ideas?

Pirates themselves don’t fit the MK kiddie concept. You would have to tame down Tortuga either way.

True, and the film certainly had parts that don’t fit the MK rules, Tortuga can be done well but I think it needs the ability to not be constrained with such standards. First of all, there’s no alcohol in MK. There isn’t one pirate in either Tortuga scene that hasn’t had a drink recently
