Blue Sky ideas at the Disney Vacation Club

The next stop in the Jay Rasulo tour of Disney’s “blue sky” planning is the Disney Vacation Club.  (See the post below for more.)  As well know the next resort in the time-share club is the Animal Kingdom Villas, and that one in California is not too far behind.  But what else is on the horizon?  Here’s another quote from the Wall Street Journal…

Disney’s time-share business, Disney Vacation Club, is also plotting new locations. Outside of Florida, the company may consider locations such as California, Mexico and the Caribbean, says Mr. Rasulo. It could take several years for such new ventures to really move the needle, however.

The off-site properties at Vero Beach, Fl and Hilton Head, SC were reportedly slow to sell out, so the speculation always has been that DVC was permanently scared off the idea of building outside the confines of a theme park.  This piece of information is the first time in a long time that I can remember such public dreaming about expanding the DVC beyond the parks.

But what if the Boardwalk was the model and we added to it with characters and a limited amount of attractions?  Would a DVC property sell well as a fully immersive resort with restaurants, bars, shops, and maybe even a small water park, even if it were not located near Disney World or Disneyland?  It certainly would make sense that if they built successful property in a popular tourist destination, to add time-share units to the plan.  What do you think?
