Mediocre reviews for Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor Comedy Club

As we inch closer and closer to the official opening of the new Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor Comedy Club at the Magic Kingdom, we can conclude that what we are seeing now is pretty close to what we’ll get.  And if the reviews coming out in the past few days are any indication, the new Tomorrowland attraction is not going to break any turnstiles.

For the most complete review I have seen recently, try Kevin Yee’s from MiceAge.com.  But be aware that it is absolutely LOADED with spoilers.  From the photos and descriptions here and in other places on the internet, this attractions looks wonderfully themed and detailed.  It also appears to use some very well placed technology.  In this regard, it seems to compare well with some of the newer attractions like Nemo in Epcot and Expedition Everest that are loaded with great details and technology.

But the Laugh Floor seems to be falling consistently short of “e-ticket” status, and from the description of it, it also appears to have little re-ride-ability.  The general reaction is “good” at best, mostly something far short of positive.  Now I have not seen this, and will reserve my personal judgment until I do, but if audience reaction closely resembles what we are hearing then Disney World officials have a problem.  They just spent millions on an attraction that will soon become the next Stitch’s Great Escape.

In the long run, the true crime here is what has become of Tomorrowland.  Take the theme out of the picture, and what you have is Space Mountain and the Tomorrowland Transit Authority as good attractions, a marginally entertaining Buzz Lightyear ride, the woefully outdated Indy Speedway and Carousel of Progress, and two very expensive, high maintenance failures.  But again, I will withhold judgment until I see it for myself

Personally, I don’t read reviews ow watch videos or listen to audio of a new attraction until after I experience it myself. I like to be surprised and not hear any spoilers regarding it.I do think the attraction will largely be subjective and depend on the crowd and the jokes. The hurdle for Monsters is they NEED to be funny, whereas Turtle Talk could be funny but if it wasn’t, it’s ok because it’s goal is really to educate.

Plus the tech was so new to everyone, you had the “who the heck do they do that?” factor
