Monsters Inc. getting a name change
Well, I need to begin by apologizing for this post in advance. It is a really slow news morning, so I am digging a bit to find something to write about. Apparently Mark Goldhaber over at Mouse Planet is having the same issue.
In this week’s Walt Disney World Park Update, Mr. Goldhaber tells us about the new name change for the upcoming Magic Kingdom attraction, Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor. Imagineering has officially removed “Comedy Club” from the title. He points out the inevitable consequence…
It appears that the name of the new attraction in the Magic Kingdom’s Tomorrowland was too much of a mouthful, as the words “Comedy Club” have been dropped from the end of the name. The attraction is now known as the Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor. Several people have pointed out that the obvious acronym for Monsters, Inc., Laugh Floor is shared by a sexually oriented phrase originally popularized by the movie American Pie (no, I’m not going to explain it). So we’ll be sticking with longer versions of the name here at MousePlanet, even if the abbreviated form would boost our traffic from search engines.
Besides the hysterical idea of Disney internet forums all over the web using the acronym over and over again, this seems like a very bizarre decision. It’s too long a name? Are they serious? How about “Ellen’s Energy Adventure”, “It’s Tough to Be a Bug”, or may favorite over explanatory name “The Sea with Nemo and Friends”? It’s a comedy club. Why would we want to remove that part of the title? So people may think it’s something besides a comedy club? (That doesn’t show much confidence, does it?)
