Report; Toy Story Mania construction faces possible delay
According to Jim Hill, Toy Story Mania may not be going as planned. The under-construction e-ticket attraction coming to the Disney-MGM Studios is apparently a bit behind in its schedule and may not be ready for the summer of 2008 as planned.
The way I hear it, Imagineering management is throwing unlimited men, time and money at the “Toy Story Mania” attraction. Saying — in essence — that “I don’t care what you do. Just make sure that this attraction is fully-functional and ready to open by the middle of 2008.”
If Mr. Hill’s inside information is correct, and someone at Imagineering is actually more concerned about the date the attraction opens than the quality of this multi-million dollar investment…well, let’s just say that person needs to reevaluate their priorities. Has this person ever read anything about Walt Disney and the attitudes that made Imagineering what it is today? At this point in the construction phase, how could anyone care about the timing over the quality?

Let’s hope this report is not correct. The Disney-MGM Studios is desperate for something like this, and from what we’ve heard this could be something really fun. Let’s hope we don’t have a return to the late Eisner-era nonsense when it comes to Toy Story Mania. Imagineering has been on a hot streak recently, and I would hate to see it ended here.

The facade has gone up pretty darn quickly so my guess is any delay is with the advanced technology inside the attraction. I fear we don’t have another Test Track on our hands.

There’s actually a poster on another site who talked several months ago about some of the problems they were having with with the projections. (It actually pre-dates the launch of my site, which was a little over 2 months ago). Quality issues, even some test riders getting dizzy, that sort of thing.
I’m personally not to keen on the concept of the ride in the first place, but I do hope they insist on really getting it right before they open it.

I think the ride works better at Disney’s California Adventure with Paradise Pier because it’s suppose to be like midway games, only with a certain theme. Because of this, it can’t work at MGM (or Disney Hollywood Studios) because of the theme. But I’ll need to give it a chance first if I ever get to ride it.

Plus, with the advanced technology and the building process, it must be big to put it all together.
