Is time running short for Pooh’s Playful Spot?
Rumors are once again surrounding a potential dismantling of Pooh’s Playful Spot, something we have been hearing for quite some time. I have been hearing this from a few sources. Lou Mongello also reported it this weekend on his WDW Radio podcast.
“What I am being told is that based on what people are reading and hearing the Pooh’s Playful Spot maybe removed but not to become the Villains themed area or roller coater as been talked about in the part, but is to become something completely different altogether.”
When it comes to Pooh’s Playful Spot, I am usually in lock step with the purists on this. Though I understand 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea had its structural challenges, as well as a painfully slow loading system, it was a far superior attraction to what they have replaced it with. Now I understand the need for playgrounds for the little ones. Sometimes they just need things like this. But this is the Magic Kingdom. The whole thing is a playground. In the other parks, which focus a lot more attention to adults and teenagers, these make more sense, but not here. I am all for dismantling this and adding an attraction, even if it’s not an e-ticket.
Also know there are many of you out there who are hoping Lou is wrong about the Villain’s theme. This is one of those concepts, like the Beastly Kingdom, which many of us have been pleading for Disney to finally pull the trigger on. But I am going to go with Lou on this. I don’t think that will happen anytime soon.

I like the Villains themed area, but I don’t think it will fly. They’re not going to sandwich a villains area between Fantasyland and and Toontown Fair. It would stick out in concept and in color palette. I think the idea is great, but I don’t know if they’d ever do that. Something in my gut is telling me this will become a Tinkerbell meet n’ greet spot. Could they convert Pooh’s Playful Spot into Pixie Hallow?

Don’t count Jon out too quickly. He may be on to something here…

I actually reported this news first on WDW News Today and it is no rumor. They are drawing up plans as we speak. Check out our upcoming special podcast, episode 3, as we visit this and more rumors. I will be going into detail on the project!!!

The Tinkerbell meet and greet rumor has been around for awhile, it’s just been a question of when and where. Replacing the 1/10 Acre Wood with it would pretty much be a wash I guess. Certainly it sounds reasonable, Jon.
I personally would like to see something like The Little Mermaid ride that is featured in the special features of the Mermaid DVD. MK’s Fantasyland really lags behind DL’s, and a new dark ride like that (or another if you prefer) could do a lot for MK.
But Tink’s gotta have her space with the new Fairy movie/product line coming. Still, Ariel is a Disney Princess and we all know how much that product line sells, so maybe one day somebody will be able to successfully sell the idea.
