How long will it be Disney’s Hollywood Studios?
Jim Hill is reporting this morning that the new name for the Disney-MGM Studios may only be temporary. In the years to come, the name Disney’s Hollywood Studios may be shortened slightly.
The folks that I’ve just spoken with believe that “Disney’s Hollywood Studios” is just an interim name. That this new moniker will only remain in place until the Imagineers have effectively replaced all of the studio theme park’s soundstages & production facilities with new rides, shows and attraction. At that point — when “Disney’s Hollywood Studios” can no longer be called a working studio — the name of WDW’s 3rd theme park will change one last time to “Disney’s Hollywood.”
Now we are making progress towards a name Disney can move forward with. For better or for worse, the original plan of a working studio is over, and quite frankly that doesn’t upset me in the least. But continuing to call it a “studio” is confusing and opens every new attraction for criticism of not fitting into that theme. The rumored Disney-Pixar Studios name was only more confusing and the new name is marginally better. But Disney’s Hollywood solves the issue entirely.
Besides, Disney’s Hollywood was the name I proposed back in February. (Hit this link and check out the comments.) Just for the want to pat myself on the back every time I attend the park I am rooting for this change to happen.

Yeah, that was a nice call back in February.
As for a temporary name, judging by recent history, I don’t think Disney will move as fast as JHM is suggesting. Plus, California Adventure (another park due for a name change) is getting all the attention right now. So while the name may be temporary, I suspect it will be more in the 10-15 year range, just like Disney-MGM Studios turned out to be. Change the name every 15 years (give or take) and get a new rush of excitement, works for me.

I highly recommend not believing or reading Jim Hill.
Just like Al Lutz and Kevin Yee, his reports are filled with nothing more than sensationalistic gossip that more often than not turns out to be more wrong than right.

I like the name change. It pulls the theme park more towards a view of enjoying the park as a park and not as a working studio. My friend Ray (Grumpwurst) argues that it has been a long time since that other Orlando Park that rhymes with screwniversal doesn’t really do production, either. (I wouldn’t know, I have *never* been to that park.)
So I call out a Huzzah! And I look forward to picking up some new schwag.

Thanks for the suggestion Mike, but the domain is taken. Not a big deal because having the world Disney in your domain name is likely asking for a cease-and-desist letter.
Regarding these rumors of another name change, there was not 1 rumor of MGM changing to Disney’s Hollywood Studios so I’m not buying into these further rumors until I see it from the Mouse. Just goes to show you not to believe everything you read…

I think you’re safer if you’re using ‘Disney’ as a descriptive. Which is why I’m THEdisneyblog instead of Disneyblog. I’m also careful to use a very descriptive ‘about us’ entry.
