The good and the bad coming to the Mouse
I would like to point you over to the news section of touringplans.com, the website for the Unofficial Guide, for two very interesting stories and some great photography that goes with it. This represents the sort good and not-so-good you can sometimes find at Walt Disney World.
First the good, Touring Plans posted this magnificent photo of the now wand-less Spaceship Earth over at Epcot. And I must say it looks good. While never having a problem with the wand like many did, the structure certainly does have a unique quality.
Now, on to the bad. Here is a photo of an artists rendering for the new design for the lobby at the Contemporary Resort.
YUCK! I generally like big splashy mouse stuff, but this just looks completely out of place. The Contemporary has never been a favorite of mine. I find it drab and devoid of atmosphere. Perhaps the Imagineers are trying to inject some color but this is going way off the map.

From what I have read, that is an artist’s rendering of the 4th floor concourse of the Contemporary, not the lobby.

Yes, it is the 4th floor. For those not familiar with CR, the space where the monorail comes through “appears” to be the lobby. I was using that term more generally.

I think the Mickey shopping area is very striking. Especially when viewed from the monorail or the highert levels of the Resort. If you follow the link through to touringplans.com (ding), you get a great shot of the shop from a “person’s eye-view”. I think it conveys the excitement of the area, especially with the monorail zipping by and the general feeling of “WOW” that you get from the Contemporary.
Plus, anytime you can throw in Mickey…huzzah!

I don’t agree with Jason and David. I think this will fit right in at the Contemporary. It might even look better in person than it does on paper. You never know…

Sorry, Dave, but I have to agree with some others here- I like both pictures. (Especially the clean, crisp look of SSE.

No, it doesn’t really fit, but again, that’s not stopping any other changes like this.
Spaceship Earth looks great though!
