Time marches on at Epcot
Today is a sad day for the Epcot purists out there. From what I have been told, the new Circlevision film at Canada debuts today, putting an end to the original. Also, Epcot’s Epcot’s L’Originale Alfredo di Roma Ristorante has closed, making way for new ownership. These were two institutions along the World Showcase Promenade and their departure in yet another signal that Epcot is forever changing.
I’ve talked here about both of the Epcot originals many times. I loved them both. O! Canada was one of those things that I always felt really did what it was intended to do. Seeing that film made me want to visit Canada, and I have three or four times as a result. The scenery was stunning. The song catchy, and the whole package was somewhat moving. It made you admire Canadians. It was a classic Epcot attraction.
Alfredo’s was one of those places that filled me with nostalgia. My family would never miss a trip to Alfredo’s and we always came out satisfied and happy. Whether it was the good food, funny waiter, or twirling the napkins over our head in the Italian tradition, we made sure a evening here was always on the itinerary.
But on days like this I need to stop and remind myself that this is Epcot, the park that should forever be evolving. And in Epcot, the words “nostalgic” and “classic” do not belong.
