T-Rex Restaurant opens its doors at Downtown Disney
The much anticipated T-Rex Restaurant has opened at Downtown Disney. The droos opened yesterday and our friends at WDW New Today already have some great coverage of the place. Take a look at their video and photos.
It does appear interesting to me and I am looking forward to trying it out when I get to Walt Disney World in January. But I will be completely honest here. It does not seem to distinguish itself all that much from the Rainforest Café. The T-Rex audio-animatronics are impressive, but certainly not all that technologically advanced. But I will reserve judgment until I can experience it myself.

I ate there today. Loud. Very, very, loud. Animatronics were crude, especially when in comparison to Rainforrest cafe’s and any part of Disney.
Part of the problem is that the set up is not as emersive as the rainforrest cafe. “outside” is almost always in sight, and the frame work of lighting is very visible. The meteor shower is, especially, disappointing as it’s framed by standard lights, and dimmed by outside lighting.
. It was hard to hear my companions or wait staff, and wait staff seemed to have a hard time hearing the guests.
I dined with two adult friends and both had the same impression I did. Both swore they’d never return.
Children did not seem to enjoy the place, with many crying.
The food was okay. What I would expect from a theme restaurant.
It may do well as much of it’s traffic will be a constant influx of one time guests. I can’t imagine most coming back for a second experience.
I’m glad to have tried the place, but I can not recommend it for child or adult.

I thought the place was pretty cool, particularly the Ice Room. It is very loud and the lighting makes reading the menu a challenge. The bar and aquariums are very much like Rain Forest. I’d go again…..and will.
