I am a fanboy, a Star Wars (among other things) fanboy. I love Star Tours despite its outdated technology. Its still so much fun to ride. Its also one of the attractions to first start a disturbing trend in Disney theme park design. You must exit the attraction through a gift shop. The Walt Disney Treasures DVD collections, recognizable from their distinctive tin packaging, have always been hit and miss with me. Some are great, but many are hours of things I am not interested in to get to a half hour of some fascinating tidbit from Disney history. Your Host Walt Disney, however, breaks that mold. Alright, kiddies, I maybe in the minority here, but this seemingly great idea was a colossal waste of sixty five bucks. The premise is this: you have your own tour guide and its none other than Mickey Mouse. So far so good right? As you travel through the park, Mickey gives you information on the various attractions that is passes. It will give you information on pending events such as the afternoon parades. Plus, he’s somehow attuned to crowd control giving you wait times for some of the E-tickets like Splash Mountain and Test Track. All very cool indeed. Read the rest of this entry »

Today’s merchandise review comes from an unofficial source of great Disney-related products, the Extinct Attractions Club. The club’s founder, David O’Neal, has spent years producing some amazing documentaries on some of the best Disney attractions, extinct and living. A recent edition to the catalog is a terrific and exhaustive study on the making and legacy of the “Pirates of the Caribbean”. We are going to try and make our first merchandise review a short one, as I don’t believe that Disney needs our help selling any copies of the latest Pirates of the Caribbean film, “Dead Man’s Chest”.
